Flo & Tony's Visit

Not too long ago, Ed and I had a visit from Flora and Tony (Flo was a student of my Dad's). They both came down to Canterbury for the day and we had a great time looking around the city. After a good pub lunch at the Dolphin, we went to the ruin of the Norman Castle by the city walls. Now, it is just a shell, but you can walk up one of the stair cases and imagine what it looked like all those centuries ago. Secondly, we went to the St. Anthony's Hospital (the hostel kind, not the medical kind), where we saw where many of the pilgrim on their to/from the Cathedral rested their feet and fed their tummies. There was a sleeping area, and a chapel, and all tucked away right next to the High Street! All in all we had an awesome visit, and we can't wait to do it again.

A Different Christmas

This year, Mum and I lived under an umbrella of "different." Christmas morning, when supposed to be in church at 9:30 to ring bells, Mum and I only woke up at 9:25. Then after coming home from church, we both had stollen and juice for breakfast then had a long nap throughout the afternoon. For dinner we had a roast of beef instead of turkey, and Mum made our very own Christmas pud for dessert. On Boxing day, we had the Cliftons and Gill and Sara round for dinner and ringing of handbells. Mum and I even went so far as to buy a whole Scottish salmon and cook it in the dishwasher!!
It was interesting actually having Christmas on Christmas day. Mum and I opened presents and stockings on the 25th which is never been possible as we've always been in church all day on the 25th. It all went as well as both Mum and I could have hoped. And there were lots of leftovers to enjoy :)

Bowling!!

The second to last week of term, Ed and I decided to take a mini excursion and go bowling in Whitstable. There were different groups of obvious regulars, and not so regulars. We played two games - I won the first, and Ed wont the second. Next time we're going to try and drag the rest of our possie along and make it an evening with a bowl of chips and slushy :)

Our 2 Year Anniversary

Okay, so it's a little belated, but on the 15th of October my Eddie and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary. It's a milestone in both our lives, and I'm happier everyday I'm with him. He's been there for me through thick and thin, and I'd do anything for him. As a little gift, he gave me my lovely ring :) (Which fits beautifully on my right middle finger ;P)

Dude 2

My final box was a bit more full that the last, and was my second male. The main thing that stood out was the thickness of the leg bones. Overall, the legs were the best preserved part of the skeleton, the skull wasn't in the best shape, and left arm was almost completely missing. Hopefully further research will uncover why there are some lumpy and bendy bits in places that are usually straight and smooth.

Dudette 2

This was my 4th box of bones, and after cleaning and analysis was found to be female. She was a dainty little thing, but with great teeth - the best of the group. Apart from the bones themselves looking female, there was green discolouration on the coller bones, indicating she wore a traditional Anglo-Saxon female chains around her neck area. The only worrying bit about the skeleton is the one whole side of the skull that's missing... Hopefully I'll learn more about what that might be in my investigations.

The British Museum

It's a couple of weeks since we went, but I'll post the images anyway. For one of Ed's modules, it was recommended that he go and see the Enlightenment exhibit at the British Museum. We both thought it would be a great thing for the two of us to as I wanted to go see the Sutton Hoo exhibit, as I studied it last year. Plus, entry is free! We had a great day all together, and we're definitely planning on going to see some of the other free entry museums on London. When you're a student, you need to economise while still educating yourself :)

My Third box context was the most fragmented of the lot. The bags were full of shards, and I wasn't able to put them all together... The bones didn't say much to me either. None of the bones told me anything about the sex of the individual, or their age, so I was at a bit of a loss. Basically, I have to say "I don't know" on this one, which is okay. Chances are it's a male though, because I estimated the height and there weren't many 5'7" women in Anglo-Saxon times!

Hallowe'en Party

Yesterday night, our living room was transformed into a cave in which we hosted our Hallowe'en party. Dressing up was mandatory, so we all got a good kick out of seeing who came as what. Ed dressed up as a pimp, Ben was a mime, Hannah was the Absinthe fairy, George was an Umpa Lumpa, and I dressed up as a 1920's flapper girl. In keeping with my genetic tendencies, I was on the floor with my dress sewing it a half hour before the guests were to arrive....
It was a lovely evening nonetheless, and I glad we did it. For Wednesday, Hannah and I are going to carve pumpkins so if we get any trick-or-treaters, we'll be ready!!
